BP Labels Launches Anti Counterfeiting Service - Press Release

Added On:

BP Labels today launched ‘BP Security Solutions’, a service offering bespoke anti-counterfeiting solutions using a range of labelling security features.

Every year counterfeit goods cost the global economy $1000bn. They undermine public trust in brands and in extreme cases they cause injury and even death to unsuspecting consumers. Often the first line of defence is the use of authentication technology, in order to quickly and positively identify genuine from fake products. BP Security Solutions aims to help companies make the most of such technologies and ensure they work as part of an effective strategy to protect products and their users from fraud.

“For over 25 years we have been producing the highest quality labels for the pharmaceutical, electronics, cosmetic & toiletries industries, our systems and controls are of the highest level, in fact being accredited to PS9000:2001 pharmaceutical packaging standard means that traceability and security are integral in our facilities, systems and perhaps more importantly the culture of our organisation.” Said Jackie Evans, Marketing Director, BP Labels.

“BP Security Solutions will offer more than simply labels, it will aim to work with companies to ensure that the labelling element of an anti-counterfeiting strategy is effective and that it validates the integrity of the supply chain. We understand the complexity of working with suppliers and innovators to develop truly bespoke solutions and can advise on how best to use technology in and on packaging to verify the chain the custody.”

BP Security Solutions offers a range of overt and covert security features from a range of the industry leaders in the field of anti counterfeiting and are accredited by organisations such as Sicpa, Kodak and JDS Uniphase.

Counterfeiting – The Facts

• The World Health Organisation estimates that 6-10% of worldwide drug sales are counterfeit.

• In 2001 approximately 192,000 people died in China because of fake drugs. (China’s Killer Headache: Fake Pharmaceuticals, Washington Post August 30th 2002)

• Gulf News reported that sales of replicated cosmetics are estimated at US $210 million in the region.

• According to the World Health Organisation, 70-80% of profits from counterfeit products from the Asia Pacific region are used to finance organised crime and terror groups.

• Four raids in Wembley market before Christmas 2005 netted fake goods with a street value of £1.5million. There are around 1,200 permanent markets in the UK, plus many car boot sales and Sunday markets. If the others only yield the equivalent annually of Wembley’s four weekends, the fake value nationally is £1.8 billion, on which the VAT alone would fund a new school and hospital. Reclaiming Spent Liner

Added On:

Until now the only option was to send spent liner into landfill sites, a practice which is under scrutiny in all areas of our lives, whether at home or in business. Now North American based Channeled Resources Group - Maratech division are operating a new single pallet recycling scheme in the UK to ship the liner to recycling facilities in China and India. Previously end users would have had to save and store the material until a certain weight had been reached, now for around £40 - a price lower than the taxes imposed to ship spent liner to landfill - any end user in the UK can send a single pallet of spent liner to the Maratech facility in the South of England, where it will be stored until the desired weight is reached for shipment.   Source: Labels & Labelling Aug/Sept 2007   For more information contact Jackie Evans or Jeff Smith on 029 2077 8500

Latest £100k Repro Investment

Added On:

Installation of the latest £100k investment in new repro equipment is now complete, the investment represents the latest in plate manufacturing technology.

Our new Cyrel Digital Imaging (CDI) equipment will enable us to make higher quality plates, our aim is to push the boundaries of flexo to the point where we are able to seriously challenge the traditional position of litho as the dominant quality process.

The associated software will also allow more sophisticated file manipulation, all of which will give ever greater consistency and further improve our service to our customers. Plus with the new equipment we can remove more chemicals than we previously could from the process, which is very important to us as we continue to think of the environmental issues involved and strive to reduce our carbon footprint.
