BP Presents at ATPUK Annual Conference

The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK is the professional and representative organisation for pharmacy technicians working in the UK. Their Annual Conference, which is seen as an apportunity for all technicians to update themselves on the latest industry research, issues and developments was held in Cardiff last week and BP were invited to present a paper on Counterfeit Pharmaceuticals.

Often the last line of defence against counterfeit medicines actually reaching the patient, technicians were keen to understand the extent of Counterfeit Medicines and what part they themselves could play in combating this growing problem. Jackie Evans, Marketing Director of BP gave a presentation that showed how and where some of these medicines are manufactured and how some are infiltrating the legitimate supply chain, using real case studies and photographs.

Jackie said 'I think some of the delegates were a little bit shocked to learn that we actually have a problem here in the UK but I really think that we helped to raise awareness of it and what they can do if they become suspicious, I also think that some people might now think twice before they buy a knocked off dvd, watch or handbag, which is a good thing! It's great to get the opportunity to talk directly to people in the front line and we really appreciate being able to share what we've learned over the years'
